Nest & The House That Lars Built Partner to Host Stitched Together

Nest is proud to partner with The House That Lars Built to host Stitched Together–a virtual stitching circle led by Lviv-based master embroiderer Hanna Rohatynska–to raise support for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

In late April, Nest hosted Stitched Together, a virtual stitching circle led by Hanna Rohatynska, a Lviv-based master embroiderer, to raise support for organizations providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Following a presentation by artist Christina Schmigel on the cultural significance of embroidery in Ukraine, Hanna and her translator led attendees through a simple pattern to stitch a talisman star, a symbol of protection in traditional motifs.

Stitched Together demonstrated the power of craft to connect communities. Attendees learned about Ukrainian craft and culture and received a real-time update on the situation in Ukraine from Hanna’s translator. As participants worked on their embroidery they chimed in with thoughts and prayers for the people of Ukraine and committed to wearing their completed stars on Ukraine’s Vyshyvanka Day (May 19) in a show of solidarity.

Nest is proud to partner with The House That Lars Built to offer this opportunity to learn and stand in solidarity with Ukraine to an even greater audience. At 12pm EST on May 17, all are welcome to join Brittany Jepsen, founder of The House That Lars Built, and Hanna Rohatynska on Instagram Live to learn how to stitch the talisman star.

Craft kits for this event are available through our partner Maydel, who has generously agreed to donate the proceeds from the sale of these kits to Ukrainian aid organizations.
