Meet Sophie, Our Unstoppable Intern

In the span of one year, Nest added four new members to our team to support the scaling of our work. And even still, we remain small and nimble, allowing the flexibility for pursuing unruly ideas, embracing aberrations of strategy, and reacting sensitively to the continuous fluctuations in the artisan landscape. So it follows, that an extra pair of helping hands and an outside fresh perspective are appreciated assets at Nest, in whatever form they present themselves.

A few months ago, Sophie O’neill Latulippe, presented herself to us, and how could say no? Sophie is youthful optimism mixed with a quiet wisdom beyond her years; she is easy to laugh, calm under pressure, and always ready to help. As a Parsons student, Sophie is earning class credits through her internship with Nest. She has quickly made herself an indispensable member of the Nest family and we couldn’t be happier than to call her one of ours. Here is a quick chat from Sophie about the 5 Things inspiring her these days.

5 words to describe you or your approach to fashion:

  1. Slow
  2. Second-hand
  3. Hopeful
  4. Messy
  5. Thoughtful

4 places you want to visit (or have already visited and love most!):

  1. Southern Africa (Botswana, South Africa, Namibia)
  2. Japan
  3. Denmark + Sweden
  4. Iceland
3 reasons why making things or being creative is important:
  1. I think there is an incredible kind of power that comes from being able to create something that did not exist before.
  2. I think making things and being creative is so necessary in order to move forward as a society.
  3. I often think of making and creating as a form of peaceful protest, refusing to settle with what currently exists, and developing something you want to see in the world.

2 things that inspire you right now:

  1. I have been inspired throughout the NODAPL protests at Standing Rock; it is inspiring to see people of various communities gathering to support Native American rights. Though I stay cautious about what the recent victory will mean for the future of the pipeline, I am glad to see Native American communities receiving (a fraction of) the attention they deserve.
  2. I am also inspired to see an increase in brands choosing models of varying body types to represent their brands. I have been really excited to see this movement gain some ground in the past couple of years.

1 wish for the world:

  1. Only one? I think we all need to take better care of each other.
