Sustainability Accelerator Fund

The Need

Sustainable handcraft is about more than our environment. It’s about protecting livelihoods, preserving culture, and ensuring that artisan communities can thrive for generations to come. Each investment in this program fuels a more prosperous, transparent, and resilient creative economy worldwide.

Your support helps artisans innovate responsibly, creating change that ripples through supply chains and into communities across the globe.

The Impact

Every gift to support the Artisan Sustainability Accelerator helps Nest expand the program’s reach, connecting more artisans to the mentorship, tools, and opportunities they need to create the sustainable future they envision. Together we’re shaping a more environmentally conscious and ethical future for makers and consumers.

In the heart of the Peruvian jungle, a chance meeting between designer Jenny Boucher and industrial designer Mauricio Navarro ignited the idea for DAR Proyectos. Jenny brought a lifelong passion for textiles; Mauricio, a drive to reinvent indigenous craft. Their shared vision has since evolved into a studio where cultural heritage meets playful design.

"The most recent Artisan Sustainability Accelerator program that we did this year allowed us to receive insights into the themes that are common across different artisan communities and businesses. It was really cool to be able to share with artisan Guild members and the Accelerator businesses all of the things that we've learned and to face our challenges together with a group of people that are specifically in the same field, sharing the same problems, and seeking the same opportunities."

Climate change is one of our most pressing global challenges, affecting ecosystems, economies, and communities worldwide. As climate-related disruptions intensify, it is increasingly crucial to understand how they impact the creative economy and the makers and artisans who depend on it for their livelihoods.

With support from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, Target Foundation and Etsy, Nest, in partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund, has developed a new vertical which aims to understand the impact of climate change on makers, artisans, and craft communities in the United States and globally, so that we advocate for sustainable solutions.
