STILL SOARING FROM THE SUMMER OF LOVE

The summer solstice found Nest in the company of Nest Advisory Board member, Melissa Joy Manning, and Nest partner, Mara Hoffman, along with a vibrantly clad assemblage of Nest supporters, atop the WWD rooftop. Not only an auspicious day in the seasonal calendar, the date for the occasion also marked a commemorative moment in history: the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love.

50 years ago, the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco was a focal meeting place for a national movement calling for civic action, community, and consciousness. Today, as big changes are taking place in our world across the geopolitical landscape and the retail industry, choosing these principals remains as important as ever.

The evening, which served as a benefit raising vital funds for Nest’s work, exemplified the unifying power of craft, which can break down barriers like borders, belief systems, and political preferences, to bind us in our shared humanity.

Joined by creative wizards Marie Sophie Lockart and Cara Marie Piazza, and with the help of DMC Embroidery, the Nest community (between sipping on local Wolffer Estate wine and enjoying organic fare from Dig Inn) got crafty with hands-on embroidery and natural handkerchief dying. Surrounded by concrete fields of farm-fresh bouquets (courtesy of The Bouqs), we channeled our inner flower children.

A tremendous thanks goes out to the evening’s host, Mara and Melissa, and all of our event partners: DMC, Deepa Gurnani, Wolffer Estate, Free People, The Macallan, VOSS, Dig Inn, and The Bouqs, as well as to all the incredible brands who donated items for the night’s silent auction.
